Life cycle

Mosquito dergun has a very short life cycle. Most of its individuals spend in larval stage. After reaching adulthood, adults can live for about 2–3 days.

Ringing larva leads an active lifestyle. It is found in any type of reservoir, manure, on trees, as well as many other wet substrates. Most of the individuals feed on the filtrate of sludge plants.

Adult female dies immediately after laying eggs. The place where the protagonist of the genus makes laying is silt. A distinctive feature of the laying of green mosquitoes is that all eggs are dressed in a common gelatinous mass. After the birth of the larvae become red. This is due to the presence of hemoglobin, which allows representatives of the bell-ringers to live even in conditions with a limited amount of oxygen.

Interesting!

During the test, dried green mosquito larvae were sent to space on the outside of the ISS. As a result, 80% of individuals survived.

The life span of mosquitoes males reach 2 years, but this is in rare cases. Most jinglets die a few days after growing up.This is due to the lack of formation of the oral apparatus, which does not allow imagoes of derguns to consume any food. Sometimes the bell ringer at the stage of an adult insect uses honeydew or floral nectar as a power source, which makes it possible to prolong their life.
